HR Professionals

A Social Network for HR folks to connect, share knowledge and learn.

I have recently switched jobs. Again. I used to work for a real estate developer in the NCR and I shifted to Pune two months ago because I was offered what seemed to be a challenging role in the Performance Appraisal arena which was also linked to Compensation and Benefits.I have now switched to the R&D division of a well known fertiliser/chemical manufacturer and would be shifting to Gurgaon soon.

When I landed in Pune, my boss did not meet me. He sent word through his secretary that I should first find a Home for myself and then report to work. I did so but then again he did not meet me.

He sent me off to the manufacturing plant where the Head of HR, ( my reporting was to one of the directors of the company), handed me over to one of the Operations staff for my Induction who kept me standing in the pouring rain for half an hour while he dealt with the scrap shifters and then promptly called the Head of HR and asked him in highly profane terms as to what should he do with me!

After ten days of joining I was introduced to the other staff members at the corporate office where I was based and again by the secretary. My reporting boss deigned to meet me after exactly one month of my joining inspite of sitting in the same premises. At this meeting he told me that I should walk in any time to discuss any issues. He did not meet me even once before this (the interview two months prior to my joining lasted 5 minutes and was perfunctorily conducted at best.) When I took my issues to him he shot off a mail to his other subordinates and again went into a stupor for 15 days and asked after I handed in mt resignation what was the status.

I have landed a new job and have been relieved from my duties in Pune. What I would like to know is that am I justified in expecting basic courtesy from my boss or should I lower my expectation bar? My thoughts are highly muddled because my new boss in Gurgaon makes it a point to keep in touch and calls every few days just to ask how things are going.

Does the small stuff count or not?
